Kelly Pretlow, CPYI, E-RYT
Kelly discovered yoga in 1993 and was immediately drawn to this ancient art and science. In 2002, she was introduced to Iyengar Yoga, a very precise asana methodology which focuses on physical and energetic alignment. Seeking to deepen her understanding of the whole of yoga, Kelly later enrolled in the College of Purna Yoga, a two-year teacher training program, and became a Certified Purna Yoga Instructor in September 2006.  In March 2008 she qualified for, and registered as, an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT) through Yoga Alliance.

Kelly has been teaching yoga since 2002. She has over 2,000 hours of training in anatomy, asana, therapeutics, nutrition, philosophy, and meditation. A firm believer in the importance of continuing education, Kelly maintains a regular practice schedule with her teachers, Aadil Palkhivala and Mirra.

Kelly’s alignment-based approach to asana, as well as the ample use of props, enables students to adapt postures to their changing needs while developing the skills needed to safely practice yoga for years to come. With a keen understanding that there is much more to yoga than postures, Kelly compassionately guides students on their journeys of self-discovery and teaches how the practice of yoga profoundly affects daily life. Students in Kelly’s classes can expect a safe, caring, easy-going environment in which to explore and deepen their understanding of their bodies and their lives.

Kelly holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Gender Studies and Spanish from Indiana University.  She is a trained doula, having completed training at Seattle Midwifery School in May 2007.  She is a member of the International Alliance of Yoga Therapists (IAYT), Yoga Alliance, and Pacific Association for Labor Support (PALS).  A former Air Force officer, she knows first-hand the effects of stress on one’s well-being and general outlook. She also knows the joy and healing that can be found in practicing yoga.

In her teaching –- as in her life -– Kelly strives to cultivate harmony: balancing effort with relaxation, flexibility with strength and encouraging a unity of body, mind and spirit.
